Marilyn Jane Hobbs

Marilyn Jane Hobbs, 73, of Hartford died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at home surrounded by family. Marilyn was born in Lyons County, Iowa and graduated from Wakonda High School. On January 30, 1976, she was united in marriage with Robert Hobbs in Sioux Falls, SD. Following the marriage the couple lived north of Ellis on the farm for many years and later moved into Hartford. In addition to farming, she worked for the Sioux Falls Schools as a Custodian and the American Legion in Hartford, SD. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and DAV. Throughout her years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary she held many offices including the Department President for the state of South Dakota. Her passion for serving veterans was evident in the 11,761 hours she devoted to the Sioux Falls VA Hospital over the course of 37 years. Visitation will be at Barnett-Lewis Funeral home in Sioux Falls from 6-8pm with the family on Tuesday, May 22. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Hartford, SD on Wednesday, May 23, at 10:00am. Grateful in sharing her life are her children David Skliris of Flandreau, SD, Jane and the late Dan York of Linn, KS, Kim and Jon Moore of Plankinton, SD, Toni and Raleigh West of Hartford, SD, and Deb Pearson of Vermillion, SD; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild who brought great joy to her life; her sisters Judy and Lee Hanson of Garretson, Betty and Darwood Sandberg of Brandon, Dee and Ray Schulte of Hartford. Her brothers, Palmer and Jan Ericksen of Canton, Paul and Roxanne Ericksen of Park Hill, OK, Harold and Diane Ericksen of Canistota, Donald and Lola Ericksen of Arroyo Grande, CA, David & Sue Ericksen of Sioux Falls.Donations can be made to the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
