Marge Johnson

Marguerite Ellen (Marge) Johnson, 86, died October 20, 2007 at the Johnson County Nursing Center in Olathe KS. Mrs. Johnson was born August 2, 1921, in Sioux Falls SD and lived there until 2005 when she moved to Olathe. She was the daughter of Earl C and Veronica Adams Brown of Sioux Falls and sister of Howard, Earl, Richard (Dick), and Jon (Jack) Vincent Brown. She was graduated from Cathedral High School in 1939 and worked for several years in Sioux Falls before joining the Marine Corp in 1943. She was married to Clark W. Johnson in 1944, and was discharged from the Marine Corp later that year with the rank of Corporal. She returned to Sioux Falls and received a teaching certificate in 1954 and her Bachelors degree in 1960 from Augustana College. She taught in the Sioux Falls School District for 29 years, retiring in 1983. Most of her teaching career was at Horace Mann Grade School, teaching 4th grade. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the St Joseph Cathedral and St Therese parishes. She was actively involved in the Catholic Daughters, and did volunteer work at St Therese for several years before moving to Trailridge Retirement Community. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a brother, Howard R Brown, Bedford TX; three children, Carol Rubsam and husband Ray of Olathe KS; Michael Johnson of Crofton MD; and Gary Johnson and wife Stephanie of Eden Prairie MN; 12 grandchildren and step grandchildren, Jennifer Prince, Kris Lemus, Holly Larson, Rachel Whitaker, Amber Rubsam, Jessie Johnson, Damon Johnson , Abby Johnson, Erin Johnson, Theo Johnson, Garrett Johnson, and Kate Johnson; and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation is Tues. evening October 23 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home omega replica with a Scripture Vigil at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial is Wed., October 24 at 10:00 am at St. Therese Church. Burial is at St Michael's Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
