Roger McCollar

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger McCollar, a man whose indomitable spirit touched the lives of many. Roger was born October 17,1940 in Sioux Falls, SD to Neil and Florentine (McDonnell) McCollar. Rog embarked on his final journey February 15th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love.

Rog’s life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, laughter, and an unyielding commitment to his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 61 years, Sheree McCollar, and a loving father to their five children: Paul (Julie Wingert), Sioux Falls; Theresa (Mike) Minihan, Blue Rapids, KS; Phil (Tina) Rapid City; Katie Wick, Sioux Falls; Steve, Sturgis. Former daughter in- law LaChel McCollar, Rapid City. Nine grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gary (Kathy) McCollar, Sue (Dale) Pedersen and Judy Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary, Marylin, Linda, and Carolyn and a grandson.

His optimism and unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rog’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will endure in the hearts of those who loved him. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, let us also celebrate the life he lived—a life marked by love, generosity, and an enduring commitment to making the world a better place.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20 th from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, February 21 st at St. Lambert Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.

May Roger McCollar rest in eternal peace, his legacy living on in the cherished memories of his family and friends fortunate enough to know him.
