Barbara R. Brende, 99, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on March 17, 2024.

Barbara, a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, was born to George and Caroline Nicolai on May 11, 1924. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1943. Barbara started working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in her senior year of high school and she worked there for 13 years.

Barbara married Orlene Brende on June 1, 1948. She lived for over 60 years in a home that Orlene built for them. Barbara was a charter member of St. Lambert Church and a member of St. Therese Parish.

She is grateful for sharing her life with her children: JoAnn (Paul) Christenson, Larry (Mary) Brende, and David (Lori) Brende; seven grandchildren: Melissa (Mike) Ormseth, Emily (Mike) Smedsrud, Nathan Brende, Patrick Brende (Mark Hofberg), Jessica (Ryan) Bickett, Samantha (Derek) Locke, Austin Brende; and 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Orlene, her parents, brothers George and Clark and sisters Audrey and Jean.

Memorials may be made to St. Therese Parish and Children’s Home Society.

Visitation will be Monday, March 25, 5:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 6:30 PM.
