Mary Lou Kott

Mary Lou Kott, 82, entered her heavenly home on March 10, 2021 surrounded by her family. 

Mary Lou Goos was born at home on July 20, 1938. She attended country School in Willow Lake, SD and graduated from Kimball, SD High School. She grew up on a farm and was active in 4H Club. Mary Lou was joined in marriage to Duane Kott October 15, 1956. They made their first home in Kimball and moved to Sioux Falls in 1959. Mary Lou was a homemaker for many years, raising their six children. She later worked for a local drycleaner doing alterations. She also spent years working at Luther Manor and South Ridge nursing homes. 

Mary Lou was a master seamstress and always had sewing projects in progress. She enjoyed working with flowers in her garden, especially roses. She enjoyed watching basketball on TV and attending her granddaughter Ravan's soccer games and track meets. When Duane was alive, they enjoyed camping and sprint car races in Knoxville, IA. She loved her dogs Sugar, Lincoln, and Lilly. Mary Lou truly enjoyed going to Active Generations to play bingo, exercise, and socialize with her friends. She belonged to the Cathedral of Saint Joseph Parish and was an active member of Catholic Daughters of America. 

Honored to have shared in Mary Lou's life are children: Charles Kott (Tammy Clark), David Kott, Carolyn (Jon) Grimes, Douglas Kott (Becca Bunger), Jeannette Kott, and Sherri Kott; grandchildren: CJ (Amber) Kott, Micheal (Jessica) Kott, Kirby Christensen, Chris (Maria) Kott, Jacob Grimes (Lauren Peiffer), Ravan Kott (Justin Ackerman): step-granddaughter: Maddison (Paul) Dawson; great-grandchildren: Haley, Hannah, Thomas, Timothy, Katelynn, Olivia, Janelle, Addison, and Shea; brother: Lee (Terry) Goos; and sister-in-law: LaVonne Goos; and Mary Lou's caregiver and friend Kathy Lukes. Mary Lou was preceded in death by husband: Duane; parents: John and Beulah Goos; stepfather: Walter Trautman; brothers: John Jr. (Babe) Goos and Robert Goos; daughter-in-law: Lori Hirsch-Kott; grandparents: Mary and Martin Johnson and Peter and Angeline Goos; and brother-in-law: James Jr. (Phyllis) Kott.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 5:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 15, 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
