Robert Leon Kaltved

Robert Leon Kaltved, 82, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Robert was the first born son to Art and Bonnie Kaltved on March 26, 1939.

Robert (Bob) graduated from Swea City High School in 1957, and was actively involved in: football, basketball, baseball, FFA, theater and was class president. Following graduation, Bob attended Iowa Lakes Community College. He was a proud veteran that served in the army from 1962-1964. In 1964 Bob united in marriage with his true love Shirley Peterson and they were wed for 57 years. Together they raised three children, Bryan, Brenda, and Teresa. 

His work career included many years working for Rock Island Railroad, John Morrell, and Avera Hospital in Estherville. Bob and Shirley moved to Sioux Falls after his retirement.

Bob’s interests included: sports, coaching, woodworking, camping, and collecting cars. His pride and joy was his 1971 Chevy truck. He was a true Iowa Hawkeye and Viking fan who loved to attend games or watch them on tv. He was a member of the Black Nights Car Club and Estherville Wrestling Club. Bob spent much of his free time over the years coaching and attending sporting events for his extended family, whether it was his brothers, brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, or his own children and grandkids. He was known to be the most loyal, supportive, and proudest fan of his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Bob was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and uncle. He was a man of character, honesty and love for others.

Robert is survived by his wife: Shirley; children: Bryan( Michele), Brenda (Bruce) Wessels, and Teresa (Ryan) Truog; grandchildren: Danielle, Mathew, Tyler, McKenzie, Tanner, and Eli; great-grandchildren: Blake, Liam, Canaan, Mercy and Savannah; and three brothers: Ron, Jim, and Ken. He was preceded in death by his parents: Art and Bonnie; brothers: David and Roger, and many other special family members. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, 10 AM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Following a luncheon, Robert will be transported for burial in Estherville, IA.
