Maxine Genevieve Mulhair

Maxine Drew Mulhair, 96, passed away on August 25, 2011 at the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Maxine was born on January 3, 1915 to Clyde & Hulda (Theurer) Drew at Wessington Springs, SD. Maxine later moved to Parker, SD where she attended and graduated from Parker High School in 1933. On June 4th, 1936, Maxine was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Mulhair at St. Christina Church in Parker, SD. Maxine and Bob moved to Sioux Falls in 1940 to manage a paint and wallpaper store which they later became co-owners of the company with Bob's brother Chuck. Maxine was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, the Cathedral Club and a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Maxine was also a member of the Sioux Falls Jaycettes, the Sioux Falls LaSertoma Club, a cathedral bridge club and the Center for Active Generations. Maxine and Bob retired from the normal business routine in 1976 and started to enjoy winters in Arizona with family and friends. Maxine and Bob were actively involved in the South Dakota Picnic and the formation of the Sioux Falls Area Luncheon in Arizona. Before settling down in Arizona, Maxine and Bob enjoyed many years of camping with their RV's. Her memory trips abroad were to Ireland, England and Hawaii. Maxine is survived by her children: Bob (Delna) - Spirit Lake, IA. and Arizona & Dick (Judy) - Brookings and Arizona; a sister Dorothy Reed - Olympia, WA.; a sister-in-law Mary Mulhair - Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Brian, Chris (Alicia), Allison (Kip Roberts), Todd (Alisa) and Lynn (Richard Jarman); seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2005 and her parents. Visitation will begin Sunday at 5 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 2 PM at Sacred Heart Chapel at Prince of Peace with interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
